I’m Baaaack!

After a nearly month-long hiatus with a few random Facebook posts, I’m back to book blogging! After much contemplation, I am implementing a few changes.  I hope these changes result in less stress for me and more quality content for you.

I have decided to nurture my writing career, which means that I will be cutting down on blog tours and release blitzes. I won’t stop altogether, but I won’t be posting them several times a week either.  10722311c37ba3ce14fee257b84cceba

Review Guidelines have changed completely, as in I WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTING UNSOLICITED REVIEW REQUESTS! This isn’t a punishment or a snub to the authors that have nurtured my book obsession.  I have found that in accepting review requests, my time is no longer my own.  Once I’ve agreed to review a book, I am obligated to review it in a timely fashion.  This is a fair and acceptable practice, I just don’t have time to read books in a short period like I used to.  It’s not fair to me or the author. I have also been receiving requests by persons who have clearly not bothered to read my guidelines in any capacity.  This is quite annoying.  Instead, I will be reading books on my TBR (To Be Read) List and posting reviews.  This blog still remains dedicated to Science Fiction, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, Super Hero, Historical, Action/Adventure, Horror/Suspense genres.  I will, on occasion throw in a romance IF I’ve read it personally and enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, I will no longer be offering Developmental Editing. I will try to post a weekly update for your viewing pleasure! tumblr_moysfp4aBE1rhhxyso1_500

I hope everyone enjoys the new changes being made, I look forward to interacting with you and would love to hear your feedback!

Thank you for your continued support!

Happy Reading!

Rise Of The Sea Witch

Rise of the Sea WitchRise of the Sea Witch by Stacey Rourke

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I couldn’t put this book down! I’m a huge fan of fairytale retellings and mermaids in general, so when I was approached with the ARC of this title…I said yes without hesitation.
The story is an origin story of the famed sea witch that we all know from the Little Mermaid tale. Much like Disney’s take on Maleficent, Rourke weaves the sad tale of a misunderstood character who was tasked to take on too much, too fast. Vanessa lives in the shadow of her brother and is haunted by some pretty vicious ghosts from her past. The author does a beautiful job of creating a fantastic story with well-rounded characters and tense, action-packed scenes. I read this book in a day and was left with a book hangover for days afterward. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys fantasy, fairytales, and adventures under the sea.

New Fantasy Trilogy Alert!!

Oric and the Alchemist’s Key (The Oric Trilogy Book 1) by Lesley Wilson

Oric returns from an early-morning foraging expedition to find his home, Dunburton Manor, sacked by a band of marauders. Alchemist Deveril, Oric’s mentor and friend, lies fatally wounded. The old man thrusts a key into Oric’s hand, saying that it will unlock the secret to great wealth. Deveril also warns of terrible danger should the key fall into wrong hands.

Esica Figg, moneylender and arch villain is determined to steal the key – even if he has to kill Oric to get it. Oric escapes the burning manor and wanders the countryside until he stumbles upon Bayersby Manor, the ancestral home of Sir Edred and Lady Myferny. Together with his new friends, Ichtheus the apothecary and kitchen maid, Dian, Oric experiences many adventures, some hilarious, some life threatening. The trio is helped, but more often hindered by Sir Edred’s comical wolfhound Parzifal, and a donkey named Braccus.

The story culminates in a vicious battle when Esica Figg attempts to unseat Sir Edred. But does Oric unravel the mystery of the Alchemist’s key?

Oric and the Lockton Castle Mystery (The Oric Trilogy Book 2) by Lesley Wilson

Lockton Castle, a four day ride from Bayersby Manor, is in the grip of an epidemic. Concerned that the disease will spread if left unattended, Sir Edred sends young Apothecary Oric to administer to the sick.

Upon his arrival at the castle, Oric fears that something far more sinister than an epidemic is afoot. Determined to explore the castle, he waits until everyone retires to bed. The secret he unearths sends him racing back to Bayersby Manor before the inmates of Lockton Castle arise.

Mother Olive, soothsayer and troublemaker, chooses market day in the village of Kilterton to deliver a terrifying prophecy. Furious over the raucous disturbance the old woman causes, Sir Edred, Lord of Bayersby, instructs a notoriously zealous priest to nip Mother Olive’s dire warning in the bud. Father Chrispian delivers fire and brimstone sermons from his pulpit in St Griswald’s Church; does he pacify the country folk or make the already volatile situation worse.

Aided by his mentor, Ichtheus, his friend, Dian, and Parzifal, the faithful wolfhound, Oric battles to save all that he holds most dear.

Review: Love on the Prairie (McKinnie Mail Order Brides Book #1)

I really love Mail Order Bride Historical Romances, they hold a special place in my heart because they were the first romances I ever read as a kid. Now whenever I get my chubby paws on one, I do a happy dance and usually read it within a day. That’s what I did with this one. I’m pretty sure I finished it in under 2 hours!
Abigail McKinnie is no shrinking violet and doesn’t back down from a fight. She’s feisty and resilient and one heck of a loyal sister. The writing was good, but the pacing was a bit skewed. I really enjoyed reading this one, which is a feat because I’ve become quite jaded on this genre and haven’t picked up as many new reads as I normally do. Knight has given me a breath of fresh air and renewed my love of Mail Order Bride Sweet Romances! Luckily for me, Abigail has a bunch of sisters so I can look forward to more books in the future!

This book is a Sweet and Clean Historical Romance, which means it has no explicit or graphic content.  There is some violence but again, nothing graphic.

Review: Between Two Worlds by Tyler Henry

This is a Bibliogal first! I have never “OFFICIALLY” reviewed this type of book before! I am an avid reader of memoirs, self-help, and spiritually driven books. A friend of mine knew this and sent me a surprise in the mail…an autographed copy of Between Two Worlds! (I have to disclose that I am a fan of Henry’s reality show Hollywood Medium on E!) I cracked open this book with enthusiasm and excitement and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s part memoir and part self -help, (and we all know I can use all the self-help a book can throw at me). tenor

The book starts with a very quick recap of Henry’s early childhood and his first “experience”, the premonition of the death of his beloved grandmother.  The book takes a chronological journey from there, recounting how he honed his abilities as a medium and how he got his big break at such an early age.  Midway through, Henry talks about how he focuses and the methods he uses to keep his gift sharp. He also talks about how he struggled to gain acceptance from his conservative father about his abilities, which is also a wonderful story.

I really enjoyed this book. Henry’s writing comes across just as he does on his show: calm and steady.  I personally read it with light-heartedness and in the interest of learning something new.  While I read a ton of paranormal subject matter, it’s usually in a fictional setting.  I’m not here to debate whether mediums are real or hokum, I’m reviewing the book as a fan of the show and as someone who has experienced a few things that I can’t explain. I found that reading something Paranormal in the context of real life situations is quite fascinating and this book awoke me to a new genre of reading. It also inspired further research for my own Urban Fantasy novel in progress!  I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys paranormal accountings, memoirs, uplifting reads, or fans of Henry’s in general. I’m giving it a 5 out of 5 Stars.  The content was clear and easy to follow. There is no graphic or explicit material which means it’s safe for my YA readers and fans of clean reads. Most importantly, it left me optimistic and happy, something that doesn’t happen often.  I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did!

I am very thankful to my friend Derric for being so thoughtful in sending me a copy! ❤

Between Two Worlds is available on Amazon and major retailers.
