Book Review: Soulbound by Bethany Adams

Standard

“A deathbed promise

Arlyn’s quest is simple: Find her father and let him know her mother is dead. After all, Arlyn had promised her mother she’d go. The problem? Her father’s people are myths and legends, and he doesn’t even live on Earth. But despite a long journey through the mysterious mists of the Veil, finding him turns out to be the easy part.

A dream long-buried

After five hundred years, Kai has given up on finding his soulbonded. So when he stumbles across Arlyn after returning from his latest mission and recognizes her as his mate, Kai starts their bond in haste. But he never could have imagined that his bonded is his best friend’s newfound daughter. Whoops.

A hidden conspiracy sparked to life

Though the sight of Kai makes Arlyn’s heart pound, she isn’t sure she can forgive him for starting their bond without her permission. But her love life is the least of her problems. Her father is an elf lord, and his sudden acknowledgment of a half-human heir reignites the same conspiracy that took him away from her mother in the first place. Now Arlyn and her family must face iron wielding assassins, bigotry, and her newly awakened magical abilities if they hope to come through in one piece.

Arlyn thought she would return to Earth after meeting her father. Now she must fight to save the family she never knew she wanted.”

I have a confession.  This book has been patiently waiting in my dean-what-gifkindle for a few months now. I know, I’m ashamed.  My TBR (To Be Read) pile is getting out of hand.  In fact, I’m
only reading backlogged books for reviews until I get a handle on it.
It’s a serious problem.

Now, back to the good bits.  Elves, handsome, wise, magical, fudging elves!  Can you tell, I love those pointy eared nature lovers 😉 tumblr_n8i1a27wwi1sg8qnbo2_500

This is book 1 in the series and it kept me engaged from the moment I started.  I read it in a day and had a book hangover afterward.  Luckily, the second book, Sundered, is out and I’m going to make it mine. The story starts out fast, evens out toward the middle, then picks up again at the end. The cast is large, but not so large that you get your characters confused.  The plot twists are surprising and leave you speechless. I happily and enthusiastically give this book a 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a great read for anybody who enjoys action, adventure, fantasy, and a bit of romance.  I would say it’s mid to upper-level YA for a few PG-13 scenes.  All of Adams’ books are available at Amazon and other major online retailers.

I love a good Fantasy, I mean who doesn’t? This one has it all, Faeries, Goblins, Humans, etc.  The book starts out with Aurora, the Faerie crown princess mourning the death of her father and trying to find her footing as ruler of her kingdom.  While everyone believes the king’s death was a terrible tragedy as a result of battle, Aurora suspects murder.  Together, she and her childhood friend turned Captain of the Elite Guard, Percy, set out to solve the mystery.   Aurora soon learns how shady and dangerous court intrigue and politics can be.

The story is solid and I enjoyed reading it.  It’s safe for the younger crowd, although there is some violence.  It’s published by Clean Reads which means nothing explicit and no graphic violence.  The pacing is fairly steady and easy to follow and the characters are three dimensional.  I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Fantasy, especially a more traditional type of Fantasy.  Tolkien fans, Jordan fans, take heed, you might need a copy for the holidays! I’m giving this one a 4 out of 5 Stars!

Review: The Shadow and The Sun by Monica Enderle Pierce

Standard

So this week I’m introducing you to a Historical Fantasy set in a Medieval background. If you like Game Of Thrones, The Wheel of Time series, or really any other Fantasy series; I think you’ll be pleased to read this.  It has adventure, magic, warriors, and some romance thrown in for good measure.

So get ready for my review!

tumblr_ne0hbn1i4t1tq4of6o1_500.gif

Halina, the bastard daughter of the king, is a fierce warrior and respected leader.  Currently her kingdom is at war with the kingdom of Bersera and she is sent as an emissary to the Shadow Mage to secure his allegiance.  There’s one big problem, the Shadow Mage might live in her kingdom, but he’s the brother of the King of Bersera. 12235013_971866096220572_6081445717608669339_n Halina isn’t discouraged though, he’s a man and she’s never met a man she couldn’t conquer.

Gethen is a powerful Shadow Mage and Necromancer.  He has no interest in choosing sides in this war.  He’s busy trying to convert into a Sun Mage and defeat a powerful witch out to destroy everything.  He has no time for the beautiful lady knight knocking at his castle door.

The two get stuck in a blizzard of magical origins and realize they need each other to defeat the evil Rime Witch.  By defeating her, they’ll not only save the world, but possibly end the war brewing between the kingdoms.

I found this book very enjoyable.  It’s been a LONG time since I’ve read a medieval fantasy and this was a good one to get back in the groove with.  It has some of the things that people find difficult in this genre, like trying to remember all the names and titles (or maybe that’s just me, I’m a bit scatterbrained) but the story flowed well and the mythology was easy to understand.  I loved that a woman was the hero of the story, which is something lacking in this genre.  I LOVE a good dose of girl power! This is Book 1 and the full title is The Shadow and The Sun ( Militess and Mage Series ) and I’m hoping for more soon.  The world building is really amazing and detailed, without dragging on and boring me ( I have to be honest, The Wheel Of Time did that to me a couple of times).

b4bf3f1f2df7739608b4f5aaaa2300ebI’m giving this book a 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to experienced fantasy readers and to those who haven’t read fantasy before but want a place to start! It’s violent and has some sexual content so I would recommend it for the upper YA crowd and Adults **

**Disclaimer: My recommendation is based on what I would feel comfortable letting my own family members read age wise, so take it with a grain of salt, not responsible for butt hurts

Illusional Reality

Standard

Boy do I have a treat for you!  While I mostly use this space for book reviews, I’m making room for an interview!  Just in time for Easter, I’ve got an interview with the woman herself; Becky, whose story is told in Illusional Reality!

To set the scene, Illusional Reality is a Paranormal and Fantasy Romance, so today’s interview will definitely focus on Romance 🙂

10294458_10154173396534994_8318401356595204693_n

Bibliogal: Hi Becky can you just tell our readers what your relationship status is on Facebook.

Becky:I’m single. I’ve dated of course. My friends set me up with a disastrous blind date but that’s tale for another time.

Bibliogal: Do you believe in Mr Right?

Yes, I believe there is such thing as true love and that your soul mate is out there somewhere. But the world is a big place, you may never find one another, so you take what you can get. I’m not interested in meeting anyone and settling down. I like things the way they are.

Bibliogal: What is love to you?

Becky: “What is love? Love hurts. When you’re full of happiness you feel as though you could burst. With every smile, every time you hold hands, every warm and gentle touch can leave you melting. You want to stay cuddled together, warm, safe.
How could you be so lucky to have found each other. But you worry that it can be taken away just as quickly as it was given to you.
Treasure every moment of love and happiness as it may not last and if you’re one of the lucky ones it can last an eternity.”

Bibliogal: You sound as though you have experienced love?

Becky: “Only in my dreams.”

Bibliogal: Can you elaborate?

Becky: “It’s going to sound silly but I have these dreams where I’m with a man and I can feel his love and devotion to me. It’s like a warmth flowing through my body. I trust him completely and know he is the one. But I never see his face. So yes, I believe the man that will complete me is out there, somewhere.

Bibliogal: Thank you for taking the time to talk to us Becky.
