Review: Keeper Of Crows by Casey L. Bond

Carmen Kennedy is a spoiled brat from Beverly Hills with a chip on her shoulder and a cocaine addiction to match. Using drugs to suppress reality, her life is more than she can stomach most days. All she wants is to disappear, and on one fateful night, her wish is granted.

There is a world that exists just beyond the fabric of our own. When Carmen is dragged there against her will, her hopelessness seems to disappear, replaced by a determination to survive. The Keeper of Crows is charged with guarding Carmen, but is safety a possibility in a world so desolate? Can love blossom when danger lies in wait? Together, they fight like hell, seeming to lose more ground than they gain with each battle against the dark enemy threatening to tear them apart. Can love keep her safe? Can it give her the strength she needs?

When the lines between life and death, reality and dream become blurred, who will save the souls trapped in the spaces between Heaven and Hell? Who will save Carmen’s only love, The Keeper of Crows?

Keeper of Crows is a new paranormal romance duology from the author of The Frenzy Series. The book does contain adult material such as profanity, illicit drug use and sexual situations.

Keeper of Crows is a dark and gritty Paranormal Romance by Casey L. Bond.  Her main character has a chip on her shoulder that may be more accurately described as the Grand Canyon.  She’s hard to like, but eventually, you get there.  Carmen goes through an epic journey that leads her to do some soul searching (literally haha) and Michael is the paranormal guy who helps guide her through it.  But he’s not just ANY hot paranormal guy…he’s the Keeper of Crows

So this book is unlike any PNR that I’ve read.  The heroine is a spoiled rich girl who ends giphyup in a bad way (okay that’s kind of like some stuff I’ve read before 😉 ). Carmen finds herself on a journey through both our world and the Other Side and she has to grow up quick.  I really enjoyed reading this book and I’m eager to see how the story plays out. I was surprised with how much I ended up rooting for Carmen and Michael towards the end.  The writing is phenomenal and the situations are very real in some circumstances. It also deals with some heavy subject matter (if you look deeper into the text).  I would recommend this book to just about everyone! It’s YA PNR, but it has some dark moments, drug use, and sex scenes, so reader beware; probably not recommended for middle graders. I’m giving it a

I was surprised with how much I ended up rooting for Carmen and Michael (The Keeper of Crows) towards the end.  The writing is phenomenal and the situations are very real in some circumstances. I would recommend this book to just about everyone! It’s YA PNR, but it has some dark moments, drug use, and sex scenes, so reader beware; probably not recommended for middle graders. I’m giving it a 5 out of 5 Stars and keeping it in my “permanent” folder for future rereads.

Standing in the cemetery that’s been her sanctuary, she’s threatened by the most beautiful boy she’s ever seen and rescued by two people who claim to be her family. Ember’s powers are growing stronger, morphing into something bigger than anything anybody anticipated. Ember has questions but nobody has answers. Nobody knows what she is. They only know her mysterious magical gift is trying to kill them and that beautiful dangerous boy from the cemetery may be the only thing standing between her and death.
As Ember’s talents are revealed so are the secrets her father hid and those in power who would seek to destroy her. Well, it’s NANOWRIMO Eve and I’m pumped! What is NANOWRIMO? National Novel Writing Month, is a tribute to authors and writers all over the world! It’s a month long party.  You can be at any stage of the writing game; a noob or a seasoned veteran. This month everyone is encouraged to write an entire novel (50,000 words) in one month.  Obviously it doesn’t have to be a polished novel ready for submission. The goal is to push yourself to finish.  This will be my second year, last year I failed and tapped out at around 22,000 words.  In a way I won, because I have NEVER written that far into any of my novel ideas.  Most of them get a few chapters and then I let the doubt goblins invade and shelve them.  63824ef244ffd62d5d66dfcbca85ebd7

My story last year is shelved for now, it needs a ton of work, but the characters are solid and the bones are good. I’ll probably work on it in the future.  Will I make it to 50,000 this year? I’m sure as heck gonna try!  I’m superbly lucky to have a great support group of authors and writers to fall back on and my buddy Author Rebecca M Gibson, has my back. I’m entering this year with a positive attitude and a light heart.  Things are going to be fun! November will be dedicated to NANOWRIMO and I have a few authors guest posting articles on Bibliogal! Stay tuned and feel free to chime in at any time about your NANO experiences! Are you entered? Are you ready? In 3 hours (by EST/US time) it’s game on!

Happy Writing!

Illusional Reality

Boy do I have a treat for you!  While I mostly use this space for book reviews, I’m making room for an interview!  Just in time for Easter, I’ve got an interview with the woman herself; Becky, whose story is told in Illusional Reality!

To set the scene, Illusional Reality is a Paranormal and Fantasy Romance, so today’s interview will definitely focus on Romance 🙂

Bibliogal: Hi Becky can you just tell our readers what your relationship status is on Facebook.

Becky:I’m single. I’ve dated of course. My friends set me up with a disastrous blind date but that’s tale for another time.

Bibliogal: Do you believe in Mr Right?

Yes, I believe there is such thing as true love and that your soul mate is out there somewhere. But the world is a big place, you may never find one another, so you take what you can get. I’m not interested in meeting anyone and settling down. I like things the way they are.

Bibliogal: What is love to you?

Becky: “What is love? Love hurts. When you’re full of happiness you feel as though you could burst. With every smile, every time you hold hands, every warm and gentle touch can leave you melting. You want to stay cuddled together, warm, safe.
How could you be so lucky to have found each other. But you worry that it can be taken away just as quickly as it was given to you.
Treasure every moment of love and happiness as it may not last and if you’re one of the lucky ones it can last an eternity.”

Bibliogal: You sound as though you have experienced love?

Becky: “Only in my dreams.”

Bibliogal: Can you elaborate?

Becky: “It’s going to sound silly but I have these dreams where I’m with a man and I can feel his love and devotion to me. It’s like a warmth flowing through my body. I trust him completely and know he is the one. But I never see his face. So yes, I believe the man that will complete me is out there, somewhere.

Bibliogal: Thank you for taking the time to talk to us Becky.

Find out what happens to Becky by reading her story, Illusional Reality, available now. I certainly look forward to seeing where she ends up in the romance department!

Maggie For Hire

I posted yesterday on Facebook saying that Maggie MacKay Magical Tracker Series by Kate Danley, was hands down my favorite Urban Fantasy series.  It’s true.  I stumbled upon this little gem a few years ago while recovering from a surgery.  It was included in a little boxed anthology for 99 cents.  In that anthology I discovered several Horror and Urban Fantasy books that really spoke to me, but from the first time she uttered the F word, I knew Maggie was for me.

So here are the deets about Maggie MacKay….wolverine

She’s the best at what she does, and what she does isn’t nice…okay so that’s Wolverine,
but seriously it applies to Maggie (also I think that would be a pretty awesome, seizure inducing team up)

She’s a smart mouthed anti hero….wait isn’t that Deadpool?  Omg!834f0f1f6a2367d55bf1df4b4374e793d6cf22c4484e15c9003a8b5b2ff8f29c

She say’s the F word a lot…but it’s in context so roll your eyes if you must, or revel in the fact that Maggie cusses as much as you do.  “Fucking, Elves”…(Maggie tagline)

Her family is really amazing.  Her mom is a ….mu mu wearing psychic with a penchant for perms and orange hair dye.  She gets on Maggie’s nerves, but I’m pretty sure Maggie wouldn’t have it any other way.

Maggie’s twin sister, Mindy, lives the ordinary life of an accountant who idolizes Martha Stewart.  She is always good for support and to lend you a spare room when you’re trying to thwart evil world domination.

Mr. MacKay…Maggie’s Dad, is her inspiration and taught her everything she knows. She’s constantly asking herself what her dad would do in dire situations.

The MacKay family is a riot and full of laughs, fights, and love. I want to be a member 😉

Maggie is chock full of action/adventure, supernatural worlds, humor, drama, even some sweet ‘aww’ moments.

Killian: The handsome Elf tasked by his Elf Queen to help Maggie on her quest to save the world.  He’s every gals’ fantasy, but Maggie is having none of it.  He’s a great partner, but his human skills are textbook at best.  (Which reminds me of a certain Angel Of The Lord, that I’m obsessed with 😉 )

The best part of this whole series….There are currently 5 books published and one on the way!  To get started on a whole new magical obsession you should check out Maggie For Hire (which is FREE right now on amazon!)

Books are as as follows:

1.  Maggie For Hire

2. Maggie Get Your Gun

3.  Maggie On The Bounty

4. M & K Tracking

5. The  M-Team

Coming Soon: Maggie Goes To Hollywood (April 15,2016)

Also definitely worth mention: A Maggie Novella called The Ghost and Miss MacKay, which is featured in the Nightshade Anthology on Amazon. ( Another good grouping of Paranormal, Horror, and Urban Fantasy authors!) for 99 cents.

Nightshade (17 tales of Urban Fantasy, Magic, Mayhem, Demons, Fae, Witches, Ghosts, and more)

One last note: You can’t get engrossed in Maggie without paying homage to her creator, Kate Danley.  Not only is she the genius behind Maggie, but she’s written a ton of other great stuff as well as written and produced her own plays!  Check out her social media, trust me you’ll be glad you did!

Roanoke Author Invasion!

Who would have thought my first “CON” would be the Roanoke Author Invasion!?  I would’ve thought it would have been Tri-Con, which is located in my little safety net of Huntington, WV.  Instead, with a little babysitter juggling I managed to clear my schedule for the weekend of April 2,2016!  I’m pretty excited and of course I’ll be featuring my little adventure here.

I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing works by several different authors that will be in attendance, so my fan girl button has been activated. I’m wondering, do I make business/calling cards or something to let them know about me?  Would they recognize me (probably not since my pic is of my Halloween Costume and I don’t wear that much makeup on a daily basis)?  Agh!  If anybody out there has been, or will be attending this year, hit me up!  I want some pointers and tips!  Help!

In the meantime here’s a list of featured authors and other pertinent info!  PS Tickets to the event are FREE!

Review: Wildest Dream by RC Boldt

It’s Sunday Night and I’ve just finished this really great Contemporary Romance by RC Boldt.  Wildest Dream is Book 1 in the Teach Me series.  It revolves around teachers Mac and Raine.

Callum “Mac” Mackenzie has had a broken childhood and served as a Navy Seal.  He’s seen and experienced some dark stuff.  He ends up in Florida teaching Math at an elementary school, where he meets Raine, a fellow teacher.

Not only is Raine a colleague, she happens to be best friends with his best friend’s sister. (Sounds complicated but isn’t I promise) This means he has to tread lightly, no one nighters with this gal or else.  He’s been warned by his best friend to keep it in the “Friend Zone”.

Raine Thompson, is a capable, smart and funny gal. She teaches Science (which automatically ups her likability  quotient in this nerd’s opinion)   She happens to have a knack for bad relationships and wacky dating mishaps.  She is just about ready to give up on love when the new guy comes to town.  He’s hot, he’s a colleague, and he doesn’t do relationships.  Bummer for her.  Raine wants the whole package, butterflies in the tummy and eventually Happily Ever After.  Mac is not the whole package (at least relationship wise).

The pair quickly form a deep friendship and then it escalates.  The challenges come in all forms for this duo.  They both need to dig deep and search their hearts for answers.

This book is well written and edited!  The characters are funny, smart, and realistic.  A big pet peeve of mine in Contemporary Romance is that the characters are one dimensional or have a backstory that is just too tragic to bear witness to.  I love that these characters shop at Target, buy designer clothes at thrift shops, and rent their houses.  I love love love that these ladies and gentlemen are the guys and gals next door.  The men are supportive and the women aren’t doormats, so bravo RC Boldt for giving me a great read and making me look forward to the rest of the series.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I would also recommend it to the Adult Contemporary Romance crowd or anyone who just likes a good romance involving a Navy Seal turned teacher and his good natured, smart, and at times feisty, colleague!

Oh, did I mention that this is a series? Yup, it’s Book 1 in the Teach Me series and believe me, you’ll want to check out the others.
